If you have been in contact with any document management companies here in Jacksonville then you may have heard the term capture being thrown around. The idea is pretty basic, capturing is the method you choose to get your paper documents put into electronic form, typically through a scanner or a copier. You may have simply contacted the manufacturer of your copier to hear about their system. Most have them, Xerox has Scanflow, Kyocera has KyoCapture, Lexmark has DocMP, HP has NetDocuments, Ricoh has DocumentMall etc. What most of the systems have in common is that they are only compatible with their manufacturer’s devices.
A solid document management system shouldn’t tie you down to a specific brand. I think the reason is pretty self explanatory. If you don’t know much about doc management then you may not have realized this though. It’s possible that that’s not a concern for you, but if you plan on growing or adding additional machines easily in the future then it probably isn’t the best way to go.
