Do you know what VOCs are? If not then you probably don’t know that copiers commonly produce them. As you may have guessed these “VOCs” aren’t too good for you. VOC is an acronym for volatile organic compounds and the one you should be particularly concerned with is ozone. Here are some of the effects of ozone as according to WebMD.
- Lung irritation and inflammation
- Coughing, wheezing, and pain when a deep breath is taken
- Permanent lung damage with repeated exposure
- Aggravated asthma, higher chances of pneumonia and bronchitis, and decreased lung capacity
So if you want to find out if your copier is making ozone you need to ask “How much is the corona wire for this copier?” If you find that the cost is included then you have a VOC producing machine. It would be wise to look into the best safety precautions beginning with keeping your copier away from employee desks, etc.
